What sparked your interest with the paranormal?
I started off an interest in the paranormal from an early age, I used to love telling ghost stories by the fire when I was away camping and I suppose everybody has had a haunted house at the end of there street that not only interested you but scared you to death.
I suppose Most Haunted really brought the paranormal to what we see now, but I used to watch it and be so frustrated of them running away at any given moment and never having cameras set up in the right places. My thoughts if I had a team I would want people that would never run to do their best and try and catch something paranormal for the world to see. I'm proud of the fact that 3 years down the line Fps is stronger than ever and its all because I have the best team I could of asked for.
Have you ever seen or felt a ghost?
I've been told that I have seen my grandma when I was at a young age but it was so long ago I just can't remember the details. Since I have set up FPS, I have been in many a haunted location, I have been touched on the shoulder and have been blown on or had a heavy breath in my face on more than one occasion. My instinct is to go 'What the f**k was that!?!' But that's when your professionalism comes in and you begin to look into what caused it. I remember walking back and forth on one location with Kara attempting to recreate a breath in my face, it was odd but these things always give you a buzz and we spend days talking about it after.
If you could describe yourself in 6 words (any words), what would they be?
Six words ain't needed I'm the boss :)
...But okay, grumpy, annoying and love to wind people up but if you need me I'll have your back 100%
Where would you you most like to investigate and why?
Wow good question! I'm a ghost hunter, I would love to investigate anywhere really. I have investigated clients houses and spent hours sat in graveyards, dark woods and basements. But everybody asks me this.
I have a few I'm interested in going to, one place in particular is near impossible but I'd love to visit the Titanic. I bet there are some fascinating stories hidden down there and would be amazing to catch some evidence of that tragic night. Having said that, I will list a few: Colditz Castle, Wolfs Liar and Auschwitz are high on my list but if I'm looking at the UK I'd love to get down to the Hellfire caves and the Tower of London. I really could go on forever with this.
One of my dreams was to go to Pendle hill and were going there this year! The exciting part of being a ghost hunter is you never know what tomorrow will bring.
Do you believe in ghosts?
Oh your really trying to catch me out here! Hmmm... Lets see... Do I believe in ghosts...?
I do and I don't. If you want to pick my brain, I do believe some of the stories I've been told as there has been substantial evidence to back it up. If the evidence is there I will say yes but if its not, I'm on the fence. Until I actually have a cup of tea with a ghost I'd say I'm very open minded.
How do you feel about your team mates as a whole?
What can I say about this team? Awesome is not a word I use often but they truly are. I've been lucky to find people who will have each others back through anything. My core team are the best people to have next to you when the going gets tough. In this job your gonna clash and your gonna fall out over silly things, it's just the stress and pressure to have everything correct and in order that can get to you, but you ask any of my guys after an investigation when they have that buzz, would they want to be with another team? I honestly don't think so. Yes I've had to let people go in the past and sometimes the dummy comes out but this is a professional organisation, we help clients, we help people scared to death and if my team is not right then I'll make the change. I'm also looking forward to the four newbies that I've taken on as I feel they will bring a lot to the team as a whole and will cover us on the bigger investigations. If I had to leave this team it would only be for TAPS. This group has grown together and our bond is strong, no one can break that. Believe me when I say people have tried. Special mention to Sarah, Steve and Kara for being there through everything and to Elaine and Linda for always offering their infinite help and support, even though family time usually falls in the way and welcome to Emma, Gemma, John and Michael.
For me fps is complete would only recruit again if I was expanding around the UK and things are already in motion to set up in Manchester. Just watch this space!
What's your favourite tool to use on an investigation?
My Favourite piece of kit?
I have two favourites as I'm greedy! One is my team, without my team to help me search for the unknown then I would not have the results that I would hope for! The other is the K2. I think it's a fantastic piece of equipment and have had some amazing results on this in past. I don't go anywhere without one in my pocket.
So all in all, what are your thoughts on the unknown and what advice would you give to anyone who wanted to pursue paranormal investigation?
Anyone wanting to start their own group or want to go alone, my advice would be, don't be afraid to ask for advice. This isn't television, things happen and you cant just walk away if you don't know the answers. You may be helping a family or just sitting in graveyards but you have to be ready to go there as much as you can so be prepared to never say no.
Also be aware of what or were you're going too. Don't underestimate the world of spirit, I would say join an established team, there are some good ones out there and they usually would help you.
